It is no secret that Facebook is a must-have component to your social media strategy but also a great way to easily add value to a new project that you intend to sell.
Just take a look at the numbers – there are over 400 million active users on Facebook, and 50% of them log in on any given day. Most importantly is the effect that this has on being able to find, reach and communicate with new and existing visitors to your site, regardless of the niche you’re in. All this equates to value and when selling your website, value = $!
As of last July, people were searching on Facebook over 800 million times each month – that is almost 1% of ALL internet searches done in the same time period, more than any other social media platform.
If that doesn’t drive home just how important Facebook should be
to your marketing strategy, I don’t know what will.
The basics of your Facebook marketing strategy is to create a Facebook account, and then to create a Facebook fan page. Let’s go over a few basic steps to create your Fan Page.
Step One: Go to Facebook.com
Go to Facebook.com, and if you have an existing account, make sure you are not logged in. You’ll see a page that will allow you to log in or sign up, and there will be a link lower down on the page that says “Create a Page”, like this:
Step Two: Fill out the details of your page
Click on that link. It will bring up three options – create an Official Page, create a Community Page, or create a Group. You want to create an Official Page, and fill out all of the information required. Select the category for your business, create your page name, and check the box that says “I am an official representative…” like this :
Step Three: Log In
Then click on “Create official page” at the bottom. Now it will ask you to create a Facebook account, if you don’t have one already. If you have an account that you use for business purposes, select “I already have a Facebook Account” at the top – then login using your info. If not, fill out the information required and click “Sign Up Now”, like this:
They will send an email to your address to confirm your account.
Step Four: Complete Your Page Details
Once you’ve confirmed, you’ll automatically be taken to your new Facebook Fan Page! You’ll want to customize the page with your logo and information, along with a link to your website, by clicking “Edit Page” and filling out as many details as you can.
Step Five: Make it Interactive
Encourage participation by adding applications to your Facebook page through the Facebook Application Directory.
Out of all the applications, the best ones to start with are:
- Networked Blogs, which allows you to integrate your blog’s RSS feed into your Facebook Page…
- Social Tweet, which gives you a Tab that shows all of your Twitter updates on your Facebook Page (to hopefully get you more followers!) AND links to your Facebook Page from Twitter (to get you more fans!), and…
- Extended Info, which allows you to provide more information on your “Info” tab (including links to other websites, contact info, and upcoming website sales.)
You may also want to try the “Testimonials” application, which allows you to collect and display testimonials from fans and Facebook users!
Step Six: Get Fans!
An easy way to do this, especially if you already have some connections on Facebook, Twitter, or through your email list, is to simply broadcast the new URL for your Facebook Fan Page.
Link to your Fan Page on your blog, on your Twitter account, and on your website. Get as many people “Liking” you on Facebook as you can! The more fans you have, the higher your page will show in the search results!
Step Seven: Interact!
Not only will this help you gain more fans (and help you keep the fans you already have!) but it may even help you make a few direct sales through your Facebook page.
Offer exclusive content and/or discounts to your fans (if you offer products or services.) Ask for fan feedback on new changes to your business. Start a topic of discussion. Get your fans involved in your page.
You can even ask your fans to Tweet, Stumble and Digg your Facebook content – increasing your exposure in other mediums, and again, gaining you more fans!
Follow those seven steps, and you’ll be gaining business through Facebook in no time at all.
